Roche „FRITZ“

The „FRITZ“ offers an update to the traditional office and home office: it unites people in a workspace that is more than a conventional office and thus represents the architectural translation of the cultural change of the „New Ways of Working“ at Roche. The new Multifunctional Workspace Building „FRITZ“ was designed by the international architects Christ & Gantenbein, headquartered in Basel. All the furniture is based on a concept developed by INCHfurniture, which was created in intensive and close collaboration with the client and architect. The new concept is flexible and modular and provides a clear and deliberate contrast to the open and rational architecture.

The interior elements developed by INCHfurniture especially for this building and realised by Ganter include Creative Labs, flexible Workstations, Agility Spaces, Meeting and Silent Hubs as well as Sky Box, Forest Circle, Community Tables and Kitchenettes. These elements cover functions, needs and requirements that characterise the work of Roche teams. The particular challenge was to skilfully combine the many different materials of the individual room elements while taking into account the high sustainability requirements. For the flexible Workstations, aluminium tubing systems, maritime pine panels, acoustic panels made from recycled PET bottles and over 20 other components were used. For the circular Meeting Hubs, meeting rooms for 4-6 people, 17 upright solid aluminium segments were milled for each hub, powder-coated in gold and combined with curved glass panels.

The Sky Box is a free-hanging room construction that provides a view upwards through a skylight as a rest and relaxation room. A total of seven tea kitchens are available for catering and as social meeting points for the staff – each of them is a compact, fully equipped stainless steel professional kitchen (3.9 x 1.6m) with high-quality appliances.
