First German brand store becomes part of the street
With elegant and lightweight e-bikes, the Belgian brand Cowboy convinces in urban mobility. Previously only available online, Cowboy ventured into stationary retail in the spring of 2022 and opened a 100 square metre flagship store on Neue Schönhauser Straße in Berlin. In the direct vicinity of Apple, Peloton, Lynk & Co.
As a general contractor, Ganter realised the reduced design by the Japanese architectural office Schemata in coordination with the architectural Büro Heidkamp from Munich. The concept allows the store to become part of the street on which the Cowboy bikes will later be ridden. In Berlin, cobblestone pavements predominate, so all the floors and walls in the store itself are designed with grey cobblestones made of flamed granite. The new flagship store appears clear and reduced, almost monochrome.
A task in which Ganter was able to convince with a lot of experience and know-how in site management, project management and construction and, due to the particularly early involvement in the project, was able to form the interface between the customer and the architect as well as subcontractors.
The particular challenge was to precisely translate the Japanese architects‘ design into reality, which meant that approx. 400 kg of load per linear metre of wall had to be carried without disregarding axial accuracy and the precise connection of wall joint to floor joint. In addition to static safety, the physical requirements of the old building had to be reconciled with the design requirements of the draft and simultaneous ease of installation.
Individual development of unique elements
In addition to dry construction work, electrical, lighting and sanitary work, Ganter realised the shop fittings as well as the equipment for the bicycle workshop. All elements of the store concept were individually developed, from the filigree lights with integrated Oled displays to the floor and wall rails made of powder-coated steel and aluminium profiles to the seat cushions made of black, abrasion-resistant rubber granulate and the custom-made roller trainers for the presentation of the Cowboy bikes.
Working with Ganter allowed us to push the boundaries of our retail concept. When you want to disrupt the format of a store and in need for technical experts to test prototypes and test different set-ups, you’re at the right place.
